The volunteers all arrived for 6.30pm and were shown to the training room where Sarah spoke to them about the work we carry out at the GSPCA, the volunteering roles and how to help safely at the Shelter and our events.
At the end of the evening Sarah spoke to each of them and found out what they were interested in doing from their Duke of Edinburgh to volunteering and helping with animals in our care.

Over the past few months a young wild goose has been seen at a car park on the seafront in L'Eree.
The GSPCA has been involved with rescuing the bird and called out on a number of occasions both day and night to check on the young animal.
On a number of occasions 6 wardens have been out and 3 staff to check on the bird and we did bring the goose in during July and it was found to be in good health.
In our care members of the team did name him 'Paul' and he spent a short while with another goose in our care.
The GSPCA would lie to say a huge thank you and good luck to Andrew Alford who is running the Matterhorn Ultra in aid of the Shelter and animals in our care.
Here are a few words from him and the link to sponsor him online -
Andrew Alford said "So the what am I doing."
"One hungover Sunday a few months ago I decided to run a marathon, not keen on road running I thought I’d do something different and stumbled on the Matterhorn Ultra."
"Having a slightly fuzzy head I didn’t really read up on it, just entered and paid my money."
The GSPCA have run a Volunteer out of hours warden service for over 40 years and we are very proud of our amazing team that do so much to help 1000's of animals in Guernsey every year.
This role entails driving the GSPCA Ambulance and answering the emergency phone out of hours or on the weekend to respond to the varied calls that come in all times of the day and night.
From helping reunite stray dogs to catching baby birds, containing cows in the road to checking reports of injured seals you never know what a call may entail.
Charlotte Le Marquand is from Guernsey and currently a zoology student at Swansea University undertaking her final year project under the supervision of Dr Dan Forman.
The main focus of my project is to understand the distribution and abundance of hedgehogs in Guernsey. Charlotte has previously undertaken some volunteer work with the GSPCA during 2009 and has also visited the Shelter with a veterinary surgeon from Les Eturs Veterinary Centre while on work experience in 2013 and also this summer as we are helping support her with her project.
