Is Monday the 4th July in your diary?
Once again the GSPCA are looking forward joining the National Trust at Le Viaër Marchi on Monday 4th July.
We will be setting up from 4pm for a 5pm start and if you can help volunteer please do get in touch.
Held on the first Monday of July (in any year), Le Viaër Marchi is a colourful and widely anticipated annual event in Guernsey’s calendar and continues to be the Guernsey National Trust’s greatest fundraiser.
Could you help man our stall for the Taste of Guernsey Seafront Sunday on Sunday 26th June.
On the 26th we have a stall planned for the Taste Seafront Sunday and also an Open Garden event at L'Etiennerie Farm and we are appealing for help for both so we can run both events.
The stall in town we will be setting up from 8am for a 10am start and pack up around 5pm for their second Seafront Sunday of 2016.
If you can help at the Open Garden we are looking for volunteers between 12pm and 5.30pm.
On the 12th June we and St Andrews Floral Group joined Blanchelande PTFA Summer Fete and St. Andrew’s Parish to celebrate Her Majesty's 90th birthday.
There was free fun and family entertainment including tennis, a pets corner, children’s sports, teas, a barbecue, bar and live music from Elliot Falla.
There was also Thomas the train ride, Pirates ship, BBQ (Gsy farm made Beef burgers), food and drink, Rocquettes cider, various stalls including a cake stall, raffle, animals and plenty to do and see.
On Saturday afternoon the GSPCA welcomed another lucky young lady and her friends for a special birthday guided tour of the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Scarlett Le Brun who turned 10 on Friday with her younger sister and 4 of her friends got to see behind the scenes at the GSPCA and find out about the work of the Animal Shelter.
Arriving at 4pm the tour took nearly 2 hours visiting and meeting many of the animals in our care.
Sadly one of the full time members of staff is unable to work the hours at the Animal Shelter and we are having to soon wish her luck in her new career.
Ashleigh Le Pelley joined the team earlier this year and although she enjoys her role very much, due to other commitments she is moving into another role but will carry on volunteering at the GSPCA.
This has made an opening for an exciting and diverse position at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Last night the 4th Guernsey Beavers came along to the GSPCA to literally 'Go Wild!'
Arriving just after 6pm the large group in double figures with their leaders met volunteers from the RSPB Guernsey and St Andrews Floral Group to help the conservation work at the GSPCA.
Foraging around the GSPCA grounds the Beavers helped make a bug hotel at the Shelter as part of the work to help the wildlife in and around the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
Last year the GSPCA had it’s BIGGEST every cruelty and first ever puppy trafficking case in Guernsey. Many will remember the 25 Slovakian puppies seized by the States Vet and Customs which were detained at the GSPCA and working together with the Guernsey Police resulted in a first for Guernsey in a multiple prosecution under the new Guernsey Animal Welfare Ordinance 2012 as well as other convictions.
Last week one of the GSPCA Volunteer Night Wardens were called out to rescue a very sick, weak and starving baby barn owl in St Peter Port.
The young bird was severely thin and very close to loosing his life and was found near to Candie Gardens very early on Thursday morning.
Thankfully with the skills of the team at the GSPCA and an intensive care unit the young bird has survived his first week and today started to eat on his own.
After a period inside we plan to transfer him to an outside aviary where he will learn to fly and forage for food.
Over the last year the St Andrews Floral Group have raised over £10,000 and brought together in excess of 100 volunteers to help with the grounds and conservation work at the GSPCA Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
The GSPCA are extremely grateful to St Andrews Floral Group and all that have helped and we continue to look at ways we can work together and improve the grounds for wildlife, flora and fauna.
