Earlier today grey seal pups Sealia and Gully were returned back to their home waters.
Gully was rescued last November and Sealia early January, both were between a quarter to a third of the 40kgs they should have weighed for their age which was under a month old and extremely poorly, emaciated and in such ill health they wouldn’t have survived if they hadn't have been rescued.
They needed around the clock intensive care for many weeks and required tube feeding until they were strong enough to eat on their own.
From this Monday it is our annual GSPCA Cupcake Week and we need your help.
We need you to make, bake and sell cake for the GSPCA and the many animals in our care.
Why not do you cakes with a theme such as –
For wildlife and help decorate your cakes with hedgehogs to seal pups to help raise funds for the new Wildlife Hospital and donate to the giving.gg page –

The GSPCA are delighted to announce the fifth volunteer induction of 2019 was another great success with 3 new volunteers attending taken it to 66 volunteers inducted between the five evenings this year.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said "We had a fantastic night last week on Liberation Day and inducted 3 new volunteers wanting to help out at the GSPCA."
“That takes the total to 66 new volunteers through the induction evenings so far this year.”
This coming Monday 20th May we hold our first cat first aid course of 2019 at the GSPCA with a focus on helping save your cats life.
Taking the course will be GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who has over 22 years working in the field of animal rescue and with over 3000 animals through the doors every year at the GSPCA the team see cases of animal first aid on a daily basis here in Guernsey.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running dog and cat first aid courses for over five years and have trained over 250 participants to help save animals lives.”
With little over a week to go to the BIGGEST day in the GSPCA calendar we are calling on volunteers and those with lorries, vans or vehicles that can help with transport for our BIG day.
With nearly 100 stalls and much to see and do the GSPCA is buzzing with activity for the 8th Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday taking place on the 26th May and the first of the Guernsey 2019 season.
Although we have already had baby hedgehogs or hoglets being born at the GSPCA over the last month, last Friday evening the GSPCA were called out to rescue 2 orphan hedgehogs who had sadly lost their mum, they were extremely cold and very hungry.
Only days old they were adopted by one of our staff and taken home with an incubator and specialist milk to be hand reared.
Sadly one of the hoglets didn't make it through the first night but one did.
She was named Norma and a week later after receiving milk every 3/4 hours we are pleased to say she is doing well.

Last week The Little Cottage Daycare pre-school visited the GSPCA for a behind the scenes tour with Tim Pellet the GSPCA Community and Training Officer.
Tim said “Last week we were delighted to show around the Little Cottage Daycare pre-school group."
“We were able to show them around several departments where they met Honey the Hedgehog, Lindt & Hugo the lop eared rabbits, the seals, peeked at the razor bill, said hello to Sam the Tortoise and stroked Nellie the Bearded Dragon!”
“They visited Bunny Hop Hill and saw the Memorial Garden too.”
At the GSPCA the team love to hear how the animals are doing that have been adopted and we wanted to share this wonderful letter from Benny a cat that was recently rehomed -
‘Dear Steve and Anna
As promised I am writing to let you know how I am getting on in my new home.
I've been here a week now and settling in very well.
I was very timid on the first day and took a few hours to even venture very far from my cat box.
