It is the 5th day of December and today our naughty elf Whiskers said "Have you seen the great GSPCA Christmas pin badges on sale at the Shelter."
"Only £2 each and they have some Guernsey french on them."
"What a great gift they would make."
“If your shop or business would like a counter box to sell the Christmas pin badges please do let my friends know at the GSPCA.”
The GSPCA Shop and Charity Shop are open 7 days a week Monday to Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 11am to 4pm.
Last month Andrew was rescued starving and dehydrated.
Found on a beach in Jersey this very poorly seal pup is lucky to still be alive.
Andrew is till very weak having been found only a couple of days old and in such a bad condition and the GSPCA team are working around the clock to do all they can for this very poorly grey seal pup.
Having had a series of treatments and fluids we are now appealing for donations of mackerel and herring.
Whiskers the naughty elf says “Why not sponsor an animal as a gift this Christmas.”
“Please become an Angel Pen Pal Sponsor and help the animals at the GSPCA.”
With your help we can ensure thousands of animals are rescued and cared for every year.
Without you the GSPCA couldn't run 24/7 helping animals in Guernsey.
In the last few days we have helped rescue many hedgehogs, birds, stray cats, dogs, baby bunnies and many more all of which need food, veterinary care and many specialist facilities.
Now in their seventh year, the 2019 Ceva Animal Welfare Awards recognise the achievements and outstanding commitment of the remarkable volunteers, charity workers and veterinary professionals who have dedicated their lives to improving animal health and welfare here in the UK and around the world.
In 2017 a team of GSPCA staff and volunteers were flown over for the awards as the team were bestowed with the Special International Animal Welfare Recognition award and in 2015 local vet and GSPCA President was honoured with the Chris Laurence Vet of the Year Award.
Starting this Saturday, and each Saturday and Thursday night thereafter through December in the run up to Christmas, we have the opportunity to have a stall in Market Place.
If you would be interested in helping out, could let Michelle know any times/dates you might be available by calling 01481 257261 or email [email protected] .
They may not all go ahead depending on numbers of helpers, but if we can do some of the dates that would be great.
At the GSPCA we currently have 113 hedgehogs in our care and they keep on coming.
Many will think that hedgehogs will be tucked up for the Winter by now but this is far from the truth.
Every day the GSPCA are rescuing and helping hedgehogs in need and many only a month or two old.
Publicity for hedgehogs often includes that they hibernate during the Winter months but unless the temperature is below 5C they struggle to huddle down for what should be a long slumber.
Over the last two months students from the Guernsey College Access Course have been volunteering at the GSPCA.
Each week they have been giving up an afternoon in the classroom to attend the GSPCA to help with work around the Animal Shelter and care for the 500+ animals.
Tim Pellett GSPCA Community and Training Officer said “The Guernsey College Access Course students have been a great help at the GSPCA.”
“From walking the dogs to feeding the many rabbits the Guernsey College Access Course have helped in many areas around the GSPCA.”
Over the last month the GSPCA have been delighted and extremely grateful to all of the help from the Guernsey Adults with Leaning Disabilities who have been helping out at the Animal Shelter in St Andrews.
On their first day last month they were met by the GSPCA Community and Training Officer Tim Pellett who gave them an induction and then able working alongside the Work to Benefit workforce they have helped with many tasks around the GSPCA.
During the last weekend of October the GSPCA team went along to the Sound event that took place at St James.
The two day event show cased the amazing musical talent in Guernsey and the GSPCA supported with our stall raising funds for the many animals in our care and promoting our Buy a Brick appeal for the proposed new Wildlife Hospital.
Michelle Champion GSPCA team member said “We had a lovely two days at Sound and not only got to watch and listen to great local bands and performers, but we also helped raise funds for the many animals at the GSPCA.”
This Friday St Martins Primary School students after a series of Epic days will be selling cakes along with drinks this between 345pm and 4pm at the GSPCA next to the Pet Department of our Charity Shop on Rue des Truchots, St Andrews.
The children from St Martins Primary School over the last month have enjoyed a tour, helping read to the animals, make fresh feeders for them, helped with our conservation work around site and finish their 4th day at the Shelter selling cakes to raise funds for the animals in our care.
