Last month we had a lovely update from the new owner of Armitage and Mittens two cats adopted from the GSPCA.
Both cats arrived together back in earlier this year and the team were overjoyed when we found them a new loving home together.
The 3 year old cats are now doing very well and we have had a number of updates from their new owner which we always love to see.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “It really warms our hearts at the GSPCA when we get to see pictures and videos of animals we have rehomed in their new homes.”
Nearly every weekend and in the week we hold Special Birthday Party Tours at the GSPCA.
During May we hosted a year old birthday party and we have had some fantastic feedback which we wanted to share.
Samantha Smilie said “I just wanted to thank you for a fantastic party on Saturday!”
“The children had a great time, our guide was so enthusiastic and wonderful with the children.”
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “We have been running Special Birthday Tours for a number of years and it is fantastic to hear great feedback.”
Trained volunteers from the GSPCA are carrying out searches of the southern area of L’Ancresse Common after a dog walker reported seeing the tail-end of a fairly large snake enter the gorse.
Police officers are liaising with John Knight, President of the GSPCA and a vet who also specialises in exotic animals, and States Vet David Chamberlain.
The GSPCA during hot weather often receive reports from concerned members of the public that have seen dogs locked in cars and the recent few days have been no different
The GSPCA team have been out to a number of vehicles with reports of dogs locked inside with little or no ventilation.
With the warm weather and direct sunlight, dogs in cars are potentially in a situation where you could kill your pet if it is left, regardless of the situation.
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to the Petplan Charitable Trust.
As a result of our recent Urgent Kennel Appeal the Petplan Charitable Trust have donated £5,000 to this must needed and urgent work.
Over the last two months much needed work on the kennel floors has taken place, but this uncovered major drain and structural issues.
Our kennels which were built in 2005 had a vinyl flooring put down which had sadly got to a point recently where new flooring was desperately needed which has been taking place since mid May.
Earlier today GSPCA team members Michelle Champion and Tim Pellett attended the Recovery Fayre at Shiloh Church.
Pets have been seen as great therapy in helping those recovering form all sorts of ailments and life challenges and we see many volunteers at the GSPCA that benefit both mentally and physically.
Tim, Michelle, Alfie the rat and Molly the staffi spent the afternoon talking to those at the Recovery Fayre about our work and opportunities at the GSPCA and we would like to say a huge thank you to all involved and for inviting us along.
Earlier today GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne popped along to Ravenscroft Ltd at the Market Buildings to present them with certificates and the Champions Giant Animal Mascot 5-a-side Shield.
At the GSPCA Animal Welfare Seafront Sunday last month the team from Ravenscroft Ltd beat every team in their way to become the 2018 champions.
This year’s EV Expo at Vazon is on Saturday 7th July 10 am. to 4 pm.
The GSPCA will be attending as thanks to Novamotion the GSPCA has an electric van now being used as an Animal Ambulance and a further thanks to Plug-N-Go.com for the charging point and JER Electrical for fitting the electrical charging point for free.
Novamotion has kindly donated a Renault Kangoo van to the GSPCA which is the first time the Shelter has had an electric vehicle which should help make savings of around £1000 a year in fuel.
You normally see Hoglets in May, June or July, when the first litters are generally born, and in August-September, when the second litters are often born, although we do see them throughout the year when the weather is mild.
The last few weeks have been extremely busy not only with abandoned baby hedgehogs or hoglets as they are called being found but also some of the injured hedgehogs giving birth at the GSPCA.
Yesterday Iris a grey seal pup at just 15kgs arrived at the GSPCA which was the most unseasonal grey seal pup the GSPCA had in their care.
The pup when she arrived was incredibly emaciated and the team were extremely concerned for her condition and the reasons why she was so thin at this time of year.
Despite the vets out yesterday on a number of occasions and the care of the team at the GSPCA Iris was fitting which was of huge concern and despite treatment she passed away in the early hours of this morning.
