Next Friday June 22nd is Bring Your Dog to Work Day.
Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.
When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?
Discussing the benefits of taking a dog to work might just result in a match with a dog we have in for homing.
The GSPCA would like to say a huge thank you to the wonderful team at Grow that have been helping the GSPCA look lovely and a rich place for pollinating plants for our visiting bees.
Grow over the last month have been helping with many of the GSPCA hanging baskets and many of our window boxes.
Grow Ltd provide training and sheltered work for people with a learning disability in horticulture. The selling of their produce and the garden maintenance team provide the opportunity for the interaction between their sponsored attendees and the general public.
Last month just short of 30 children from St Martins Primary School enjoyed an Epic Week in the sun at the GSPCA.
When the children were asked what Epic Week activity they wanted to do hundreds had wanted to come along to the GSPCA but as spaces were limited the lucky children were selected and had their first afternoon at the Shelter on Monday 21st May.
On Thursday 17th May Northern Trust staff came for their first volunteer day of 2018.
Over the previous four years 114 volunteers from Northern Trust have helped out at the GSPCA, with 38 staff helping in 2014 and a further 26 helping in 2015, 34 in 2016 and 16 in 2017.
Last month a team of 9 from Aurigny came along to the GSPCA to help all around the Shelter.
Along with MUG the GSPCA is Aurigny’s chosen charity for 2018 and you can find out more by visiting - http://www.gspca.org.gg/blog/aurigny-announces-chosen-charities-50th-anniversary
The team arrived on Saturday 12th May at 9am where they had a short induction, quick picture and were set to work.
On Tuesday the GSPCA welcomed the first Voluntourist group of 2018 from the Crystal Symphony.
4 passengers from the ship were greeted by GSPCA staff member Rual Gomez and new staff member Tim Pellett (centre of picture) who has joined the GSPCA as the Community & Training Officer thanks to funding from State Street and Social Security.
The Voluntourists who were on their holidays from around the world arrived at the Shelter just after 8.30am and had a short induction and were then sent to help the staff and care for the many animals at the GSPCA.
In April the wonderful staff from The Travel Corporation joined the team at the GSPCA over 3 days.
This is the fifth year in a row team members from The Travel Corporation have helped at the GSPCA.
With only a matter of weeks before Temperance the seal pup being released we are in desperate need of fresh fish to fatten him up.
His ideal fish is mackerel or herring and it has to be human quality for his health.
Temperance is eating 20-30 fish a day and we are currently struggling to find suppliers with enough in stock.
If you haven't got any fish you can still help by donating to - www.justgiving.com/fundraising/jerseyandguernseysealpups
Over the last few weeks much needed work on the kennel floors has taken place, but this has uncovered major drain and structural issues.
Our kennels which were built in 2005 had a vinyl flooring put down which had sadly got to a point recently where new flooring was desperately needed which has been taking place since mid May.
The first two sections required more work than expected and a few concerns were raised, but the work was undertaken and repairs carried out.
Last night we held our sixth volunteer induction of 2018 which took place during National Volunteers Week.
The induction will took place with GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne who greeted the 5 new volunteers with a few of their friends.
The group learnt all about who we are, what we do, the ways volunteers can help and an induction of how to help safely.
