With Spring 2014 well underway the GSPCA are asking Islanders to be mindful of the many fledglings popping up around the Bailiwick.
The GSPCA would like to remind that as a general rule, it is best to leave baby birds alone.
A baby bird has a greater chance of survival in the wild than it has being hand-reared by man as they learn to fend for themselves and how to forage for food by their parents.
Around 2 weeks after hatching young birds in your Bailiwick garden usually leave the nest, just before they learn how to fly.
Daz Carre who is taking on the Maraton des Sables is on his last leg and another marathon having had an overnight run of 81km which went through Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
Yesterday Daz sent an emotional message to family, loved ones and his supporters -
'Wow, what an experience this week has been!
On Wednesday another 13 new volunteers joined the GSPCA team.
Every 8 weeks or so the GSPCA hold Volunteer Induction evennings and this week we welcomed the newest group to the team.
With well over 340 volunteers helping the Animal Shelter every year and over 60 new helpers since the beginning of the year we are very grateful to all the help and support we receive.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said 'The volunteer support we receive is just fantastic and means we can do so much.'
Today Darren Carre is on day 5 of the Marathon des Sables 2014.
Currently Daz is on the 81km (49mile) stage through the night and we are awaiting details. He finished Stage 3 in 7hrs 59 mins and went up to 593rd place. On Monday the second day in an amazing 8 hours 3 minutes and 594th place and his first day in 7 hours 7 minutes and in a fantastic 552nd place.

I am currently embarking on an adventure (or torture as some say!) of a lifetime in which I hope to raise £2000 for each of my chosen charities. So if you've seen me out running in even the most horrific of weather, this is why!!
The Challenge:
It is customary for each intake of probationary student officers to arrange a charity event to raise money for a charity of their choosing. This is not compulsory but is embraced by most Student Officer Intakes as a way to go out into the community that they are preparing to ultimately Police.
Guernsey Police Student Officers Class 1 of 2014 have chosen the GSPCA as their charity of choice.
Their chosen event is a half island walk. Anyone who wishes to join them for any part of the walk is more than welcome, and your furry friends are welcome too.
The GSPCA would like to make a number of thanks for a wonderful week which has started Pet Adoption Month and also World Stray Animal Day on Friday 4th April.
From Monday to Thursday last week we were once again invited into the OSA Recruitment Pop Up Shop where we had all sorts on sale to raise funds for the Shelter as well as a number of animals looking for new homes.
The shop had an Easter theme and we had many visitors through the week.
