As part of the access course 'life skills' unit towards their NVQ in personal and social development (PSD) qualification, the students from Delancey Campus returned for the third time to enjoy helping out at the GSPCA.
Last month, the students, led by Helen Glenn and supported as ever by Pauline Dorau were able to do some vital front of house tidy up and plant some wonderful bulbs and flowers that were kindly donated by Ann Wragg recently.
Evie and Connor spent their work experience week 29th April to the 3rd May with us at the GSPCA and were able to work in all areas of the Shelter and get fully involved.
Every month the GSPCA hosts dozens of placements and work experience from schools and other organisations and for many this is their first ever experience of the work environment.
Earlier this year the GSPCA Manager Steve Byrne celebrated his 40th year and helped raise funds for the GSPCA instead of cards and gifts.
Steve at the time decided that he had put on a little weight in recent years so made the decision to get fit and run the Guernsey Dairy Milk Run Half Marathon.

On Sunday 16th June please pop along to Saumarez Park to see the GSPCA stall supporting the Annual Classic Vehicle Show Public hosted by Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club LBG.
We had a great time last year and we are delighted once again to be able to attend this wonderful event and will have a stall raising funds for the many animals in our care at the GSPCA.
The day starts at 11am and runs all the way through until 5pm.

This is an 18 and over event only
On Monday we held our sixth volunteer induction evening of 2019 and we were delighted to greet 11 new faces to the GSPCA.
With a wide range of backgrounds and ages the new volunteers were keen to help in various areas and roles with 2 starting work experience placements, 2 Duke of Edinburgh and 7 interested in all sorts of volunteering roles and responsibilities.
GSPCA Animal Care Assistant Beckie Bailey looked after the group greeting them, showing them the video and chatting to each of them setting a start date.
All around Guernsey each year businesses and offices have had their 4 legged friends come to work and this ear Bring Your Dog To Work Day takes places on Friday 21st June.
Having a dog in the room can make human colleagues more cooperative, reduce stress, increase job satisfaction and productivity.
When adopting a dog or any animal from the GSPCA we often ask how many hours potential owners may be at work. Perhaps the question should actually be - are you able to take your dog to work?
Tonight we have our sixth volunteer induction evening of 2019 and its #VolunteersWeek
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “So far this year we have inducted 66 new volunteers through the induction evenings.”
"Last year through the volunteer inductions we greeted and trained 189 volunteers not to mention 100's more through other placements, voluntourists and groups."
“This week is #VolunteersWeek and tonight we have our sixth induction evening of 2019.”
Earlier this week a kestrel was rescued in St Martins near Magnoila Tree Café.
The very poorly bird was barely moving with her head tucked under her wing which was hanging low covered in an oily substance.
The GSPCA rushed her to Isabelle Vets who on x-raying discovered a break as well as needing specialised bathing.
