Last night the GSPCA and Autism Guernsey with huge thanks to His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE Patron of the GSPCA and Mrs Louise Cripwell Patron of Autism Guernsey hosted the prelaunch of the Dolphin Discover Trail 2025.
With nearly all of the 62 dolphins taking part in the Dolphin Discovery trail 2025 by either sponsors or the artists a members of both charities committees and teams it was a wonderful night ahead of a very exciting event.
Every year the GSPCA receives complaints and concerns from potential scams of animals sold online to possible animals coming from puppy farms to inappropriate breeders.
Steve Byrne GSPCA Manager said “At the GSPCA we are extremely concerned about reports of people falsely advertising animals online to try and deceive people looking for a new pet out of their money.”
“Every year we have reports of pictures of puppies advertised on facebook which either may not exist or could be from puppy farms or backgrounds that are not ideal for the animals welfare.”
On Saturday the GSPCA were called out to Petit Port to a report sick seal pup.
The team arrived to find a 17kg female pup which is extremely thin suffering with pneumonia which has been called Swish and is recovering in our intensive care unit at the GSPCA that will very soon be rebuilt so some challenges ahead.
The GSPCA recently announced the release of Roar and California Girl back to the wild rescued last year and this is the first seal rescue of 2025 and is a very late pup for the season.
The GSPCA and Autism Guernsey were recently delighted to announce all 62 dolphins in the Dolphin Discovery trail now have sponsors.
Both charities are now calling any carpenters or those with woodwork skills that can help put together 62 plinths as bases for the 62 dolphins.

The GSPCA help all types of animals and assist their owners also in many ways.
We have been recently contacted in regards an owner of 8 horses that they are looking for stables for together.
They have asked the following ‘To all in the equine community on Guernsey, looking for stabling for my 8 horses with turnout ideally all to be kept at the same place rather than being split up, as they are a close family! Thank you in advance.’
The Make a Difference Awards are your chance to say thank you and recognise those who love to make life better for others.
All the categories are listed below. The awards have a new one this year open to animals and those who work with them or improve their welfare. As a nation of animal lovers we all know how much they mean to our communities.
On Tuesday 18 February 2025 the States of Guernsey launched the following details and request -
‘The States Veterinary Office (SVO) is inviting islanders to take part in a survey on expanding Guernsey's existing licensing system for animal-related businesses and organisations. This follows on from the call earlier this year for local business owners to contact the SVO to make sure their views are captured.
